How to Generate a Medical Chronology

The Medical Chronology tool converts your selected medical documents into a structured, chronological timeline using AI. This guide explains how to configure your settings, select documents, generate your chronology, edit and download the completed file.

In this walkthrough, you’ll learn how to generate a complete medical chronology in ProPlaintiff using two different methods. To begin, select your case from the dropdown menu at the top—for example, John Smith versus Great Store—and navigate to the medical chronology workspace from the case navigation panel. Before generating the document, confirm that your case details are accurate, as the AI relies on this information. If any updates are needed, return to the case overview page to make adjustments.

Next, choose a template from the dropdown menu to define the format and structure of your chronology. For optimal results, it’s recommended to create a custom template tailored to your firm’s style. You’ll also have the option to include citations, which is highly recommended since they link each entry back to the original source documents. After that, select the records you want the AI to analyze—either by filtering for medical records or choosing specific files. You can also upload additional records if necessary. Once everything is set, click “generate medical chronology.” The system will begin processing your files and building a timeline, which may take up to ten minutes or longer depending on the volume and complexity of the records. This process runs in the background, allowing you to continue working elsewhere in the platform.

Alternatively, you can generate a medical chronology using TIFF, the built-in AI paralegal. Simply open TIFF and enter a prompt, using @mentions to specify the case, relevant documents, tools, and treatment timeframe. The more detailed your prompt, the faster and more accurately TIFF can produce the chronology. If your prompt lacks detail, TIFF will ask follow-up questions before proceeding. To reference specific documents, ensure they are indexed in the system by navigating to case files, selecting documents, and clicking “index documents.”

Once the chronology is complete, it will appear in the editor, where you can review and refine the content. You can edit timeline entries, reorder events, add notes, adjust formatting, and expand medical descriptions. The citations and references tab allows you to verify all source material used by the AI. TIFF is also accessible within the editor, enabling you to request feedback or validation, such as checking for missing treatment dates or inconsistencies.

When you’re satisfied with the final document, you can export it as a complete packet with all supporting files or save a version to maintain a history of your edits. With these tools, ProPlaintiff makes it easy to generate accurate, detailed medical chronologies, with TIFF assisting you every step of the way.
