Integrating with Clio

The Clio integration lets you import matters and documents into ProPlaintiff, sync updates between systems, and manage cases without duplicate work, streamlining your workflow by connecting Clio data with ProPlaintiff’s AI-powered tools.

Overview

With the Clio integration, you can:

  • Import cases (matters) from Clio into ProPlaintiff

  • Sync updates between both platforms

  • Export updates back to Clio

  • Automatically organize imported documents

  • Maintain a single source of truth across systems

Step 1: Create a Developer Application in Clio

  1. Log in to your Clio account and navigate to the Clio Developer Portal.

  2. Click New Application.

  3. Fill in the required fields:

    • Name: Something recognizable, like "ProPlaintiff Integration"

    • Website URL: https://www.proplaintiff.ai

    • Redirect URI: ProPlaintiff will provide this — enter it here

    • App Permissions: Select the data scopes you want to share (at minimum: Cases, Contacts, and Documents)

  4. Accept the Developer Terms of Service.

  5. Click Save.

  6. Clio will display your App Key and App Secret. Copy both — you will need them in the next step.

Syncing Options for Imported Cases

Each imported case includes syncing controls:

  1. Export to Clio

    • Pushes updates made in ProPlaintiff to Clio

  2. Sync Case

    • Pulls updates from Clio into ProPlaintiff

  3. Archive Case

    • Archives the imported matter in ProPlaintiff and flags it as archived. Allows for future re-import if needed.

These options are available from the Active Cases actions menu.

Step 5: Imported Documents

All documents imported from Clio are automatically organized.

File Location:

  • Stored under a folder named:
    Clio Imports

This folder appears within Case Files and keeps imported documents separate from manually uploaded files.

How It Works

Once connected:

  • Clio matters can be imported instantly

  • Documents are automatically attached to the case

  • Files are indexed for AI tools (Demand Letters, Medical Chronologies, etc.)

  • Changes can be synced in either direction

Best Practices

  • Import active cases first to begin working immediately

  • Use Sync Case regularly to keep data up to date

  • Use Export to Clio when updates are finalized

  • Keep imported documents organized within the Clio Imports folder

  • Review imported data for accuracy before generating legal documents
